What Marriage Counseling Intensives Can Help You Achieve

Reignite Intimacy and Emotional Connection

If the closeness that once defined your relationship feels like a distant memory, a marriage intensive can help you reconnect at a deeper level. Together, we’ll uncover the root causes of disconnection and create space for emotional intimacy to reemerge—so you don’t just feel close again, you feel seen.

Break Through Communication Barriers

When conversations turn into conflict or silence, it’s hard to feel understood—let alone connected. In our intensives, you’ll learn how to express your needs clearly, listen with empathy, and repair misunderstandings. These aren’t just communication tools; they’re relationship changers.

Rebuild Trust After Betrayal

Trust can be shattered in a moment, but it can also be rebuilt—with guidance, safety, and honesty. Whether you're recovering from infidelity, secrecy, or broken agreements, this intensive provides a structured, compassionate space to begin healing and rebuilding what’s been lost.

Transform Unhealthy Patterns

Every couple has cycles—some helpful, some harmful. In your intensive, we’ll identify the patterns that are keeping you stuck and replace them with new ways of relating that foster respect, connection, and forward movement.

Create a More Balanced, Respectful Relationship

If one of you feels overlooked, overburdened, or emotionally disconnected, it can create resentment and distance. This work allows you both to be heard and seen while rebalancing responsibilities, emotional labor, and shared vision—so your relationship feels like a partnership again.

Resolve Longstanding Conflicts with Clarity and Care

Unresolved issues don’t go away—they grow roots. Whether it’s parenting, finances, or life direction, our time together will give you the clarity and tools to address hard topics head-on, with the kind of support that turns conflict into understanding and action.

FAQ's

Here you can find additional information.

Is a marriage counseling intensive worth the cost?

A marriage intensive is a wise investment compared to traditional marriage counseling or the cost of a divorce. It is truly getting 6 months of therapy in 2 days. You’ll get focused, tailored support that many couples describe as the best gift they’ve given to their relationship.

What is the success rate of marriages after counseling?

Several studies suggest that couples therapy can be effective for a majority of couples, with success rates ranging from 60% to 75%, particularly when both partners are committed to growth and change (Lebow, Chambers, Christensen, & Johnson, 2012). That said, outcomes depend heavily on the therapeutic model used and how willing each partner is to practice new relational patterns outside the therapy room.

In my intensives, I use the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy, which focuses on helping each partner differentiate, meaning they learn to stay grounded in themselves while remaining connected to their partner. This approach supports couples in moving beyond surface-level arguments to explore the underlying emotional needs and developmental challenges that drive recurring conflicts (Bader & Pearson, 1988). When we can uncover what you’re really fighting about—and ultimately, what you’re fighting for—you gain the clarity and tools to move forward together.

Of course, no therapy can guarantee transformation without ongoing effort. I’ll provide a clear path and practical tools to interrupt negative cycles and build deeper emotional connection—but the work doesn’t end when the retreat does. Long-term success depends on your commitment to applying these tools in everyday life.

What can we accomplish in just 3 days?

I know the idea of working through years of pain or disconnection in just a couple of days can feel overwhelming—but many couples are surprised by how powerful this intensive format can be. Stepping outside your day-to-day routine and focusing deeply on your relationship creates space for clarity, connection, and change. You’ll learn and practice tools that help interrupt old cycles and lay the foundation for something more lasting—something you can carry home and keep building on together.

Will the intensive feel overwhelming?

My couples intensives often feel more like a retreat than traditional therapy. While the work is meaningful and deep, most couples find the experience energizing rather than draining. The combination of new insights, guided structure, and intentional breaks creates a sense of clarity and momentum—leaving many couples feeling more hopeful, connected, and ready to make lasting change.

What types of challenges can the intensive help with?

My marriage intensives can be customized to support couples through a wide range of challenges—including communication breakdowns, emotional disconnection, trust issues, and more. Whether you're working to heal past wounds, recover from infidelity, or simply feeling stuck, we’ll work together to interrupt unhelpful patterns, strengthen your ability to navigate conflict, rebuild trust, and reconnect emotionally and physically. Each intensive is tailored to meet you where you are and move you toward lasting change. Each intensive is geared to help you reach the goals you set.

What if we still need help to resolve issues or difficulties after the relationship intensives?

Follow-up coaching sessions are available to reinforce the skills you learned while at the intensive.

Where do the intensive counseling sessions take place?

The couples therapeutic intensives take place south of Albuquerque, New Mexico in a village called Los Lunas.

Are in-person couples therapy options available?

I offer virtual couples therapy or coaching options depending on your location.
